Kể triệu chứng: symptom (triệu chứng), feverish (hâm hấp sốt — nhẹ hơn have a fever), sore throat (đau họng), appetite (sự thèm ăn — I have no appetite), swollen (sưng — dạng V3 của swell). Thương tích: graze (vết trầy nông), bruise (vết bầm), stitches (mũi khâu — put stitches in a cut). Mẫu câu mở đầu buổi khám gần như cố định và dùng hiện tại hoàn thành tiếp diễn, vì tình trạng bắt đầu trước đó và còn tiếp: I haven’t been feeling too well. How long have you been having these headaches? Bác sĩ khuyên bằng You’d better get undressed — dạng rút gọn của you had better, nghe gọn và dứt khoát hơn should. Bài còn dạy ba kiểu danh từ ghép: danh từ + danh từ (blood pressure, raincoat), danh từ + V-ing (blood testing, coal-mining), V-ing + danh từ (driving licence, dining room).

Mr Williams: Good morning, doctor.
Doctor: Hello, Mr Williams. Take a seat. What seems to be the trouble?
Mr Williams: I’m not sure, doctor. But I haven’t been feeling too well. I think I must have a touch of flu.
Doctor: Mm. There’s a lot of it going round at the moment. What are the symptoms?
Mr Williams: I’m feeling very tired, and I’m aching all over. I’ve been sneezing a lot, and feeling pretty feverish, hot and cold all the time. Oh, and I’ve got a sore throat.
Doctor: Any vomiting?
Mr Williams: No, but I don’t feel very hungry. I’ve got no appetite at all.
Doctor: Well, let’s have a look at you. Open your mouth. “Aah”. Yes, your throat’s a bit inflamed, and the glands in your neck are swollen. Can you just unbutton your shirt? I want to listen to your chest. Breathe deeply. Right. I’ll just take your temperature. Don’t say anything for a minute, just keep the thermometer under your tongue. I’ll write out a prescription for you, but you know the best thing is just to go home, go to bed, and take plenty of fluids.
Doctor: Hello, Wayne, isn’t it? You’ve had a bit of a fall. What were you doing? Going too fast?
Wayne: Yes, doctor. I fell off going round a corner.
Doctor: You’d better get undressed then, and we’ll take a look at you. Mm. That’s a nasty cut. I’ll have to put a couple of stitches in that.
Wayne: I’ve got a cut here too, doctor.
Doctor: It looks worse than it is. It’s only a graze. The nurse will clean it up for you. It’ll sting, but that’s all. Now, does it hurt anywhere else?
Wayne: I’ve got a pain in my arm. It’s very sore, and it feels stiff.
Doctor: Well, there’s nothing broken, but you’ve bruised your shoulder. It’ll be sore for a few days. Now, did you bang your head at all?
Wayne: Yes, I did. I fell onto the bike. But it doesn’t hurt now.
Doctor: Did you feel dizzy?
Wayne: No, not at all.
Doctor: Look up there. I’m just going to shine this light in your eye. No, that’s fine. I’ll just do the stitches, and the nurse will put a dressing on it. Then you can go home.
Mrs Mallard: Good morning, doctor.
Doctor: Ah, good morning, Mrs Mallard. What can I do for you this time?
Mrs Mallard: It’s those pills, doctor. They don’t seem to be doing me any good.
Doctor: Really? What’s wrong?
Mrs Mallard: What isn’t wrong with me, doctor! It’s old age, I suppose.
Doctor: You’re doing very well, Mrs Mallard! You’ll live to be a hundred!
Mrs Mallard: I’ve got this terrible cough, doctor, and I’ve still got that rash on my hands. And the backache! I can hardly walk sometimes. You don’t think it’s that legionnaire’s disease, do you? I’ve been reading about it in the paper.
Doctor: No, no… no chance of that. You’re very fit for your age.
Mrs Mallard: Pardon? Anyway, I’ve nearly finished the old pills, doctor. Can you give me a different colour next time?

Một — Nói I am feverish thay vì I feel feverish. Nói về nhiệt độ thì là I have a temperature, không phải I have a fever trong tiếng Anh–Anh thường ngày.
Hai — Chia sai swell. Swell – swelled – swollen.
Tình trạng còn đang tiếp thì dùng tiếp diễn: I haven’t been feeling well. Dạng đơn I haven’t felt well nghe như đã qua.
